At the beginning of Summer Break 2018, I sent out a wish to get a certain College Peep hooked on sushi before the end of the break. And guess what?
I Did. Just. That. This lovely slideshow is proof of my wish come true with pics of our delicious reverse happy hour sushi meal at H I R O 88, requested by none other than College Peep herself, complete with Shrimp & Veggie Tempura Appetizers, Husker / HIRO's Crunch / Sweet Chili Crab / West Coast Sushi Rolls, and Orange Mimosas to wash down all of that scrumptiousness. And with that, Team Life-Long Sushi Quest just got one member stronger.

With another summer break coming to a close, I'm flashing back to sweet memories of a family beach vacation to Ocean Isle Beach, North Carolina where we camped out in a beach house rental and partied it up like nobody's business. Family vacations like these are rare - but seriously treasured. I mean who knows if/when we will get together again sharing sand, surf, and story time on a big leather sofa with Uncle Paco, right? But at least we can enjoy these digital memories of the magical time we shared thanks to my archival of Shutterfly photos just sitting there waiting to land in a blog post.
As of today, I can safely report that 12 employers are thoughtfully considering hiring me for 19 vacant job positions. And with another phone interview and an online assessment scheduled to happen this week, things are still moving forward, albeit slower than freaking molasses as my dear Grandma would so eloquently state, but without the 'freaking' part. So I'm feeling super-dee-dooper excited about all of the activity and haven't developed an inferiority complex after all, thank goodness. On a completely non-related track, my youngest is pulling in mega-bucks with his first job ever working as a lifeguard, all while enjoying the accolades of his own personal fan club who have voted him to be one of the top Mr. King of the Pool candidates (stay tuned - he could win!) and proclaimed him to be their Zac Efron look-a-like, an observation with which I shockingly agree after seeing Baywatch images of Zac sporting similar red lifeguard trunks. This summer just got incredibly REAL.
This selfie taken with my college-aged daughter who is home on summer vacation more than adequately captures the unbroken spirit I'm feeling - because while yes I do miss certain elements that are now missing from my daily life, I also still do love the good stuff that remains and feel grateful for so much of it... like being able to take filtered snaps in the Target parking lot without too many people thinking we're a couple of weirdos.
Oh, and s'mores - feeling super grateful for those, too. Here I am soaking up more sun after several days of job searching, because this is one of the best perks of unemployment yet - being able to kick back and enjoy the summer rays as all those job applications remain under consideration. And while luxuriating in the exquisiteness of this gorgeous day, another unemployment check magically deposited itself into my bank account. Meanwhile, sending up more prayers for landing that next dream job, lest I get too accustomed to all of this summer pampering.
...and the family get too spoiled by all of the housecleaning/laundry getting done so quickly & mysteriously. Feeling all exuberant after the 12+ hour road trip bringing this lovely chica back home from college for summer break. So here we are back in shopping mode again, complete with testing Snapchat selfie filters. Perfectly legitimate way to bond, IMHO. Now if I can just get her hooked on sushi... we have plenty of time. *fingers crossed*
Feeling all jazzed after loading the youngest's stuff into my Honda CRV and venturing over to the closest Arby's for sustenance. And yet suddenly the homestead feels a whole lot smaller and slightly claustrophobic again.
One move-back-home down... one more to go. |
