Happy Halloween from Italy

For lack of anything substantial to post on Halloween, I decided to post a rarely-been-seen image of me visiting the Italian Air Base in which my Dad was the Commander, Ghedi A.B. This photo was taken while I visited Mom & Dad and had the ABSOLUTE TIME OF MY LIFE touring around Italy, the Vatican, and throughout Europe - an experience as effervescent in my brain as trick-or-treating back in the day.

The Fourth was Totally with Us

During our annual family fireworks display last night, we managed to capture some magical DSLR slow-shutter images, sparkler-style.  And despite all of the warnings against handling these so-called fiery sticks of doom, we played with fire anyway and had a ton of fun doing so.

Holiday + Cheeseburger Craving

Oh how I would love to have a burger this fine Fourth of July weekend, preferably one similar to the Juicy Burger I ate in Honolulu at Burgers and Things.  Definitely one of the many reasons to return to Hawaii.  Meanwhile, perhaps a Swiss Mushroom Burger from Runza will suffice.

Mother's Day 2017

Not wanting to get caught up in holiday crowds, my guys (Hubbie & son) started Mother's Day early by taking me to lunch on Saturday at Olive Garden, a personal favorite restaurant that rarely disappoints.  And not only were we impressed with the usual amazingness of the breadsticks, salad, and entrees, but we were also presented with a perfectly welcome new treat: Ziosk, the tabletop tablet that let us pay without the help of our server, a good thing because we all had better things to do than wait around to pay for our meal.

Now, if only Ziosk could burn off all the extra calories, too... wishful thinking?

Easter Fashion Observations from the Pew

4/17/2017

Sitting in my church pew alongside family during Easter mass yesterday, I found myself making mental notes about what fellow parishioners had chosen to wear, which was really quite a fascinating treat.  Then later in the afternoon during my Sunday power workout I thought, "Heeyyy, blog material - I should post!"  So here it is, my list of Easter fashion observations from the pew during mass:
  • Teenage dude with crisp, collared button down shirt all hanging out over khaki shorts, complete with tennis shoes.  At first sight, the guy's outfit might be considered a fashion fail.  But retrospectively speaking, his choice really was a brilliant church-to-sporting-event ensemble, thus eliminating the need to throw a second outfit in the wash - a potentially eco/planet-saving move. Not sure if his mom will be high-fiving him over it, but she probably should.
  • First Communion dress.  That's right.  Smart and mostly acceptable re-wearing of a dress that may or may not ever be worn again without the use of eBay, consignment shop, or garage sale.  Even though she did look over-dressed for the occasion, I really don't think anyone was complaining about it.
  • Pre-teens wobbling in on 4-inch heels.  Why, right?  Someone please explain.
  • Drag queen divas.  Following the herd out of mass, my family and I had the pleasure (?) of exiting behind 2 teenage couples with girls looking like they'd fallen straight out of a Fredericks of Hollywood magazine, pouffy kinky hairdos, and all.

So I am thinking God is all about grand finales?  Because... wow.  Even my J.Jill Wearever printed Empire-waist maxi dress can't top Fredericks.
